I photoshoped this piece to see what it would look like with better contrast. I love it!

So Far

Painting the Drawings

So last night Christian and I worked more on our art and he decided to paint the backgrounds black. This worried me at first. But after awhile I have become fond to the idea. Especially after I got my turn with them and modeled all of the figures in the piece. The black background brings a good contrast to the figures. Actually, I would rather the background be MORE black now! haha. I also sprayed the pieces with spray fixatif so that we could go in with some color. Here are the pieces at the current moment (Christian is still going to paint the gulper eel green).

Drawings from Tonight

Here are a couple of images that Christian and I created tonight. We decided to make them part of a narrative about a boy named Christian who got thrown over into the ocean by a pirate. He gets into a fight with a gulper eel. But it's okay because he has superhuman strength!

Getting Started

So, it's been so tough hearing so many people's input. It is especially hard since I am very much a people pleaser. I need to learn to go with what I want and I'm going to do it this time. Christian and I are going to be working with 10 x 10 squares of hot press watercolor paper. That is, paper that can be drawn on and painted on. I will start out with half of the squares. He will get the other half. We will then switch and work on each others. We will keep switching until we feel that it is finished. Here are two of my squares that I have started.






Can't wait til Christian gets a hold of these!

Enlarging the Squid

Above is the enlarged drawing of Christian's squid that I did last night. The lines still need to be filled in. I think that if Christian wants to do that that would be cool, if not I'll fill them in.

Also, I came home to my roommate upset last night because of not knowing what to do and having the deadline so close. I was going to sit down and brain storm for awhile but I had a slight idea of how it could be done. She said to me something like this, "Maybe you wont like this but what if you cut out square from paper in a set size and gave half to him to start and half for you to start, then you can switch." This was similar to what I was coming up with in my head but it hadn't completely formed yet. I think God had a play in that one! Thank you Jesus! I'm off to Aaron Brothers to try to find some hot press watercolor paper (smooth watercolor paper) that can be drawn on and painted on. After that I'm going to cut them into squares!

So I was taking photos of the work that Christian and I have done and I realized that the quality of line that you can see in the up close photographs is amazing! I may explore this more to see if maybe this will be the direction that the show will go in. I really love these little compositions.

What next?

So, I'm starting this blog because I feel as though I'm on a huge time crunch. I have this senior art show that is coming up on April 19th and I'm scared about not getting things done. I'm doing a collaboration with an eleven year old boy who I have tutored and aided for close to 6 years now. We are creating art together and we're going to show the work and the process for the show. We have to fill a fairly large room for the show. I'm going to use this blog to brainstorm ideas on how to fill the space.

I had this thought this morning about the process of art making that Christian and I have. I was thinking about how it's about reciprocation. I make something, he finishes it. He makes something, I finish it. I make something, he copies it. He makes something, I copy it. I was thinking that maybe this would be a cool idea: to make two of the walls reciprocate each other the way that we are reciprocating each other in our art processes.

I met with an art professor tonight and I think that he doesn't think that we could pull it off in time. It took a lot of convincing on my part to make him think that it will work out. He did give me one good idea though. Christian drew this little sea creature on the paper that I have on my way. My professor said that it would be really cool if I could blow it up to be like 6 or 7 feet long. I thought that that was actually a pretty cool idea. I'm going to try to get some large paper in order to have us do that project this weekend.
